Reports released by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) on August 20 show continued improvement by Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) students as measured by the 2024 Standards of Learning (SOL) tests. The results indicate that SOL proficiency rates are returning to pre-pandemic achievement levels and that school support systems and division initiatives have helped students achieve increased improvement in all subjects.
Pass Rates for All Students
LCPS pass rates for all SOL content areas increased from 2023 to 2024:
English: Reading: 81 percent of LCPS students earned a passing score on an English: Reading SOL test, an increase of one point from 2023.
English Writing: 90 percent of students passed an English: Writing SOL test, an increase of nine points from 2023.
History/Social Science: 82 percent of students passed a History or Social Science SOL test, an increase of 2 points from 2023.
Math: 79 percent of students passed a Mathematics SOL test, an increase of three points from 2023.
Science: 75 percent of students passed a Science SOL test, an increase of one point from 2023.
During the 2023-2024 school year, LCPS made significant efforts to combat chronic absenteeism. The preliminary data from the 2023-2024 school year indicates that LCPS has had a substantial decrease in the number of schools with students who are chronically absent.
“We know that when we are intentional about funding and supporting public education, great things can happen,” Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence said. “We still have work to do, but I am proud of everything our dedicated educators have accomplished to get us where we are today. Thank you to our families and community for your continued support as we work to make Loudoun County Public Schools the top school division in the nation.”
