The Loudoun County School Board held a meeting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 10, in the School Board Meeting Room at the Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Administrative Offices, 21000 Education Court in Ashburn.

Work Session
The Department of Academics provided the School Board an update on the Virginia Department of Education’s accreditation and accountability system and the Loudoun County Public Schools continuous school improvement process.

The Office of the Ombuds provided its annual report, which summarized the data gathered from constituent contacts received between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024. The annual report highlighted notable observations within the data, shared feedback received from constituents, and outlined focus areas for the 2024-2025 school year.

Highlights of the report include:

  • Family Liaisons Engaged in Back-to-School Professional Development

  • Three LCPS Schools Earned Virginia Naturally Schools Recognition

  • LCPS Students Showed Continued Improvement on 2024 SOL Tests

Recess Meeting

Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem
The Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem were performed by the Rock Ridge High School Singers.  

Student and Staff Recognition
One LCPS Spotlight: English Learners. Staff from Goshen Post Elementary School, Sterling Middle School and Heritage High School showcased their strategies for supporting English Learners. They highlighted how they ensure language development through meaningful access to content. The presentation included examples of how educators maintain high academic rigor while providing strong support for language learners. Additionally, they discussed methods for differentiated and individualized learning, as well as professional development for staff.

Public Comment
Community members participated in person to provide the School Board with comments on a range of topics.

Action Items
The Board addressed two action items:

1. The School Board approved revisions to LCPS Policy 2310, Committees of the School Board.

2. The School Board approved revisions to LCPS Policy 8273, Student Speech and Expression.

Information Items
The Board discussed several information items, including:

  1. The Department of Business and Financial Services presented information on the School Board Calendar for the Development of the Fiscal Year 2026 Annual Budget.

  2. The Department of Support Services presented information on the Formation of Renaming Committees for Frances Hazel Reid Elementary School and Mercer Middle School.

  3. The Finance & Operations Committee provided proposed Revisions of Policy 6350, Wireless Network Facility Colocation.

The Board then held a Closed Session.

School Board members provided updates on their committees and general comments.

New Business
Chair Mansfield discussed Policy 8-65, Solicitation, Distribution and Posting, and the desire to have the policy brought back to the Finance & Operations Committee.
