The Loudoun County School Board held a meeting at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 8, in the School Board Meeting Room at the Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) Administrative Offices, 21000 Education Court in Ashburn.

Advisory Committee Update

The MSAAC executive board updated the school board on their focus for the 2024-2025 year.

Work Session

Ahmed Woods, LCPS Auditor General, presented the school board with the annual report, highlighting its noticeable activities conducted between October 12, 2022, and June 30, 2024. The annual report summarized audit engagements, and hotline concerns and outlines initiatives for the 2025 fiscal year.

Information Items

The Board discussed several information items, including:

  1. Recommended updates to Policy 8020, Relations with School Support Organizations.

  2. Revisions to Policy 7316,  Supplementary Pay: Athletic Coaches, Sponsors of Virginia High School League Activities (VHSL), Co-Curricular and Other Stipends.

  3. Revisions to Policy 7630, Tuition Programs.

Superintendent’s Report

Highlights of the report include:

  • LCPS is hosting a workforce summit to help connect student interest to workforce needs.

  • LCPS School Nutrition Services hosted the first-ever Food Show at Independence HS.

  • Niche ranked LCPS the number 4 school division in Virginia.

The Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem were performed by the Freedom High School Orchestra.

Student/Staff Recognitions

River Bend Middle School Staff shared their experiences with implementing the revised LCPS School Improvement Process.

Public Comment

Community members participated in person and virtually to provide the School Board with comments on a range of topics.

Action Items

The Board addressed four action items:

  1. The School Board adopted the Secure Storage Notification Resolution.

  2. The School Board adopted revised Policy 8420, Student Medication.

  3. The School Board appointed the committee to review and suggest recommendations for the potential renaming of Frances Hazel Reid Elementary School.

  4. The School Board appointed the committee to review and suggest recommendations for the potential renaming of Mercer Middle School.
