While our teachers and staff are committed to ensuring that our students have the best possible academic experience, there are many ways to develop knowledge, skills, and values through direct experiences outside a traditional academic setting through experiential learning.

The Academies of Loudoun Placement Services offer students a structured learning experience as they explore career fields, and apply academic coursework to the workplace.  These services enable a collaborative partnership between the student, employers and the Academies of Loudoun Placement Services.  By formulating learning goals and creating a training plan at the onset of the experience, students are empowered to declare what they hope to learn, achieve and contribute.  The student’s progress is monitored throughout the process and will be evaluated to ensure that the student has met, if not exceeded goals.

The role of Placement Coordinator at the Academies of Loudoun is to:

• Work closely with the business community to identify opportunities for Academies of Loudoun students, such as jobs, internships, apprenticeships, job shadowing, service learning, mentorships and practicums.

• Assist students in securing those opportunities by coaching them through the interview process.

• Assist students in preparing for interviews, resumes, cover letters, etc.

• Monitor student progress in workplace settings.

How Can Students Participate?

While there are many resources out there for Experiential Learning opportunities, the two main ways that Academies of Loudoun Placement Services communicates these opportunities is through the Schoology Experiential Learning Group and the Airtable Database.  It is important for students to have access to both in order to see all that is available.

Access the Airtable Database....

The Placement Services office has created a database of Experiential Learning Opportunities.  This allows students and parents easier accessibility and search capabilities by the grade, area of interest, deadlines, dates of upcoming events, type of opportunity, as well as by keywords. 

• Academies students and parents can click this link to view the Airtable database. (see screen shot)

• You may get a message that says to "REQUEST ACCESS"

• Go ahead and click the request access button.

• This automatically sends Mrs. Robucci an email

• Once she gets the email, she clicks Grant Permission

• You should then receive an email saying that you have been granted access. 

Schoology Experiential Learning Group

 Enrolling in the Schoology Experiential Learning Group will allow students to look at opportunities.  This will be crucial for

• receiving notifications when new opportunities arise

• being notified of when businesses are coming to the Academies to present

• Reminders about pending deadlines
