I am humbled and honored to be the Principal of Sanders Corner Elementary School, a position that I have had the pleasure of serving in since 2013. I have been in the education field since 1995 as a second, third, fourth, and fifth grade teacher first in Rhode Island, then at Sugarland Elementary School. I served for four years as the Technology Resource Teacher at Dominion Trail Elementary School prior to becoming the Assistant Principal of Arcola Elementary School from 2007-2013.
I believe that the needs of the whole child come first. I am looking forward to working collaboratively with teachers, staff members, parents, your child, and the community at large to build a successful educational program that addresses the needs of the whole child. The work that we do in providing your child a meaningful educational experience is among the most important callings that exist in our society. For this reason it is my goal to help each child reach their academic and social potential as they "Make A Difference for Our School, Our Community, and Our World."
My name is Chet Huey and I am very excited to be the new assistant principal of Sanders Corner Elementary. I know I have big shoes to fill and I look forward to earning your trust each day. The 2024-2025 school year will be my thirteenth year working for Loudoun County Public Schools.
The past two years, I was the dean at Evergreen Mill Elementary in Leesburg. This offered me the chance to see what it was like to be a school administrator while also preparing me for the job I am stepping into at Sanders Corner.
The first eight years of my career, I worked at Countryside Elementary over in Sterling. I was a fourth grade teacher for seven of those years, and the other year I looped up with my class to also be their fifth grade teacher.
I then moved over to Trailside Middle School for two years, where I was a special education teacher/case manager and math specialist for Math 6, Foundations of Algebra, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra. This experience allowed me to gain firsthand knowledge of what is expected of students at the middle school level, as well as the curriculum they will see. I definitely taught some former Dolphins during my time at Trailside, and I know how amazing this community is. I am looking forward to reconnecting with those families and younger siblings, while also getting to know the rest of the families that make up this wonderful community.
As for my own education, I graduated from the Multiple Abilities Program at the University of Alabama, which gave me an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. Needless to say, I am a huge Alabama fan. Roll Tide!
I believe that education never stops, so I decided to go to graduate school to pursue another degree. This time I graduated from the Administration and Supervision Program at the University of Virginia, which helped prepare me for my role as dean and now assistant principal.
Outside of school, I enjoy traveling, cooking, watching sports, going to concerts, and spending time with my family. My wife, Morgan, was formerly the school counselor at Rolling Ridge Elementary in Sterling for many years, but is now the School Counseling Coordinator for all LCPS Elementary Schools. Our oldest son, Paul, is four years old, and we now have a newborn, Jack, who is now four months old. They keep us very busy!
I work very hard to form positive relationships with all students and I go out of my way each day to show them how much I care. I believe every child can be successful and it is an honor to be able to help your child in this process as assistant principal of Sanders Corner!
