Mission/Vision/Beliefs

Curriculum

Elementary school counselors in Loudoun County teach objectives from the three major domains:  academic development, career development and social/emotional development from the “Standards for School Counseling Programs in Virginia Public Schools" and the ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success.

Mrs. Shanholtzer visits each classroom for 50 minutes (25 minutes in kindergarten) every other week throughout the school year.  Classroom guidance lessons are developed to be developmentally age appropriate and include but are not limited to topics in the areas of academic, career development, and social/emotional development.

Utilizing the ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success, elementary school counselors encourage the following mindsets and behaviors for all students.

Belief in development of whole self, including a healthy balance of mental, social/emotional and physical well-being

Self-confidence in ability to succeed
Sense of belonging in the school environment
Understanding that postsecondary education and life-long learning are necessary for long-term career success
Belief in using abilities to their fullest to achieve high-quality results and outcomes
Positive attitude toward work and learning

Our bullying prevention coordinator is Mr. Carter.  If you have any concerns regarding bullying, please contact Mr. Carter.

Loudoun County Public Schools implement a county-wide bullying prevention program to teach students how to identify bullying behavior and appropriate ways to solve possible bullying concerns. LCPS School Counselors provide a Bullying Prevention curriculum (through Second Step) which is delivered to all students in Kindergarten through 5th grade. This evidence-based program provides students with four bullying prevention lessons each year. The lesson focuses on 3R’s, and teaches students how to Recognize, Report, and Refuse bullying behavior.
